Why do we need Mahal Social?
New York City is a place where you can find any and everything in abundance. And yet, I was born and raised here, I’m now a 30-something, mom of two and I just found my first private and hijabbi-friendly hair salon that actually makes me feel pampered.
I think that’s wild, don’t you?
I’ve heard versions of this story from so many other hijabbis and Muslim women.
And it’s not just hair care. How many times have you gone to a nail salon to get a pedicure and went home because there was a man in there?
Or, had to compromise your form at the gym because there were men behind you?
That’s why I started Mahal Social Club. I’m not a gatekeeper. I want to bring all the hijabbi-friendly and women-only services I found to other women like me.
When they don’t exist I want to create them for you, in beautiful, functional and elevated spaces.
This isn’t just for Muslim women — it’s for all women hungry for a space that is designed for them, a space that celebrates girlhood in all its messiness and glory.
